Joti Shephi is a long time searcher, adventurer and edge walker of life. She honors all sides of life including the deep joy and grief that are essential in our human experience. She holds impeccable neutral space for others as they walk through life's transitions and changes.
In 2014, she helped facilitate and structure the Tree of Life Initiation for Women, a program that guides women to clear their lifelines, gives them access to tools and practices for a balanced life, and guides them to claim their adult selves through a community held rites-of-passage ceremony. As an outgrowth of this intensive one-year journey, she created Wings of Water and has been offering these one-on-one and group workshops to hundreds of people throughout the United States and abroad.
She is certified as a Neuro-Linguistic Programmer through NLP Marin. NLP is similar to one on one therapy. Through this modality she helps clients become clear about their desires, work through limiting beliefs in their way and find more capacity to live the life they desire.
She has practiced and studied several different religions and attained a Masters Degree in Jewish Education. She debuted her first CD “Legacy”, is a rock climber and likes to stay adventurous and playful in all aspects of her life.
Michelle is known as a walking miracle. She experiences life as an embodied prayer in motion. She has spent more than three decades as a dedicated yoga practitioner, student, teacher, mentor, therapist, ritual and ceremonial facilitator. As a devotee to healing as a sacred art, she infuses an eclectic mandala of teachings in her work. She draws from her vast life experience, formal education and teachings from Indigenous elders to share with her students and clients.
Her foundation in yoga began in Iyengar yoga with Rodney Yee in the 80s. As a student of Anthropology & Art at The Evergreen State College, she followed her passion for experiential learning through world travel. She embarked on a pilgrimage to Asia to complete her program. She found her spiritual home in Tibetan Buddhism, Vipassana meditation, Hatha yoga, Balinese dance, and cross cultural healing practices.
Upon return, she integrated her awakened spirituality into her life purpose as a teacher and therapist at The Heartwood Institute in CA. Michelle created and taught classes and intensives, such as Ritual Movement, Sacred Art, Intuition for body workers and Life Exploration. While there, she completed her Transformational Therapist & Alchemical Hypnotherapist certifications, studied yoga with Gayna Uransky and attended ceremonies with Native American elders.
In 2009, a life-changing car accident brought her to the edge of life. On her pathway to regain mobility she worked with master Viniyoga therapist Mirka Kraftsow. She was so grateful for the miracle of her mobility through the brilliance of Viniyoga that she was inspired to share it. She attended the 500 hour teacher training with Gary Kraftsow while still on a cane. Michelle has completed over 2,500 hours of training and mentorship with Mirka to this day. She has been teaching yoga since 2010.
A deep bow of gratitude to Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, Rod Stryker, Kia Miller, Gabrielle Roth, Anodea Judith, ArnoId Mindell, Richard Beyer and a grand bouquet of others who have deeply influenced her life as she continues on her lifetime spiritual pilgrimage in service to creation.
Michelle offers classes and private sessions in her QuanYin Temple home studio in Sebastopol. You may also receive sessions in the comfort of your own home in and around the Bay Area.
